Sheetfed

Modern high-volume lithographic, or sheetfed, print technology is used to produce posters, books, newspapers, packaging, credit cards, CDs - just about any smooth, mass-produced item with print on it.

Many innovations and technical refinements have been made in printing processes and presses over the years, including the development of presses with multiple units (each containing one printing plate) that can print multi-colour images in one pass on both sides of the sheet.

Sheetfed presses come in a number of sizes, commonly referred to in the trade as B1, B2 and B3. Sheetfed companies still make up the majority of print manufacturing firms in the UK, although some industry commentators are arguing convincingly that digital print technology will eventually render this process obsolete.
