CASE STUDIES
Sales Manager
Screen Print Company
Occasionally we at Elliot Marsh are faced with what, on the face of it, seems to be a straightforward assignment, but which upon closer examination turns out to be a much more challenging test of recruitment mettle.
The Sales Director of a South-West manufacturer of banners, building wraps, displays and vehicle livery approached us with a request to find his company an Area Sales Manager to be based remotely. This was a newly-created position and the company had never penetrated this area. The company furnished us with a very attractive benefits package, had excellent name-recognition in the industry, and were well-known for quality and service. In short, we felt it would not be difficult to identify a number of interested candidates.
We spoke to several suitable individuals working in the relevant industry, but it soon became clear that a major setback was what we would call CURL, or “Customers Urging Regional Loyalty” – in other words, their clients were generally hostile to using a print company too remotely located. Time and time again we ran up against this objection. We went back to our client and explained the situation but proposed a solution: the establishment of a proper regional office to mollify the customer-base and to provide additional local employment, in the shape of two administrators. This was agreed, several candidates were identified for the ASM position (with the added responsibility of establishing and heading up a satellite office) and a successful appointment followed soon after.
Commercial Manager
Packaging Group
We at Elliot Marsh were approached by a specialist division of a UK packaging group. They were struggling to find a suitable replacement for a commercial manager with additional responsibilities heading up their telemarketing function. Unfortunately their location was partly the problem in terms of identifying candidates with the necessary background and skills.
Having spoken to a handful of individuals known to us we were referred to a potential candidate working in a similar capacity for a company in an allied field. We approached this person who in turn recommended somebody else with an almost identical background to the specified brief. The approach was made, the individual was sufficiently interested to attend an interview, and following this was keen to progress her candidature. A swift successful appointment followed. As a result of this the company were delighted and have pledged to come back to Elliot Marsh with any future senior positions.

Elliot Marsh was successful in filling this assignment. The print team shortlisted 6 Candidates from a number of extensive interviews, and the client interviewed all the Candidates before making their appointment. This appointment was fundamental to progressing the business forward and the client would not hesitate to use Elliot Marsh for all future recruitment.
